In this article I would like to introduce and recommend it to you, in case you are looking for an oscilloscope and my opinion can help you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have been encouraged to write this post by the fact that many of you have asked me about it directly and also because, as we have discussed in the Telegram group, many of you have bought other USB oscilloscopes, much more expensive than this one, and you are not at all happy with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will already be familiar with it, in some way, because <strong>the vast majority of oscilloscope captures on the blog are taken with this oscilloscope.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-que-hace-especial-al-osciloscopio-usb-loto-instruments-osc482\">What makes the Loto Instruments OSC482 USB oscilloscope special?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think it will be easier to explain if I tell you about other oscilloscopes and how and when I use each of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have four oscilloscopes in my laboratory:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An inexpensive generic USB oscilloscope USBEE<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One Rigol DS1054Z benchtop oscilloscope<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A very inexpensive, handheld oscilloscope, DSO150 (DSO Shell)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loto Instruments OSC482 USB Oscilloscope<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By far the one I use the most is the Loto Instruments OSC482.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">USB oscilloscope USBEE generic and low-cost USB oscilloscope<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"577\" src=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USBEE-e1699007923939-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-241166 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USBEE-e1699007923939-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USBEE-e1699007923939-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USBEE-e1699007923939-768x433.jpg 768w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USBEE-e1699007923939-1536x865.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USBEE-e1699007923939-2048x1153.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first of these is a <a href=\"https:\/\/s.click.aliexpress.com\/e\/_DF2YNEr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">USBEE generic oscilloscope<\/a>There are lots of them on sites like AliExpress or Amazon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It works with software called USBee AX-Pro, like many of these generic oscilloscopes. Fortunately, of what is available for this type of oscilloscope, this software is one of the best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe that the software they supply it with is pirated and, since I bought it, it has never been updated.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem is that the hardware capacity is very low, with a very low bandwidth and an even lower sampling rate, and the software is quite bad, although there are worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, the oscilloscope has no memory, which makes it entirely dependent on the software and its limited ability to transfer data via the USB port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This oscilloscope also has <strong>logic analyser,<\/strong> but I don't like their software, so I have another, similar, which uses the Seale software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I don't recommend it, although I can't say it doesn't work.<\/strong>I had the Rigol DS1054Z, because when it was the only one I had it did me good service, but that was until I got the Rigol DS1054Z, at which point I never used it again, and, above all, the Loto Instruments OSC482.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Rigol DS1054Z Desktop Oscilloscope<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Rigol_DS1054Z.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Rigol_DS1054Z-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-241167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Rigol_DS1054Z-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Rigol_DS1054Z-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Rigol_DS1054Z-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Rigol_DS1054Z.png 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Rigol DS1054Z oscilloscope is a mid-range oscilloscope, from a brand known for its good instruments, with a very good price-quality ratio, which has become almost the most popular instrument in the market. <em>standard<\/em> in benchtop oscilloscopes for makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a good oscilloscope, around 400\u20ac, with four channels and also software hackable so you can increase its bandwidth up to 100Mhz and enable decoding of many protocols, bringing it closer to the capabilities of much more expensive oscilloscopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a very good device, but I still use the Loto Instruments OSC482 much more often. Why, if the Rigol DS1054Z is superior? Because of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I often have to make quick measurements and switching on the Rigol DS1054Z is more cumbersome. It takes longer to start up, going through its menus to adjust it to what you want to measure takes more time...<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If I want to take a screenshot, or record a video, of what I'm measuring (for the blog or for reference so I don't forget it while I'm working on something, without having to write it down on paper or on the computer), doing it on the Loto Instruments OSC482 is much faster and more convenient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I find it much easier to see the information on a PC monitor than on the screen of the Rigol DS1054Z, on which, when there starts to be a lot of information, things are very small (especially text). Of course, this is not helped by my eyestrain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The vast majority of the time, I don't need the extended features or functionality that the Rigol DS1054Z provides, and the Loto Instruments OSC482 is more than sufficient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sometimes I have to decode protocols and the Loto Instruments OSC482 decodes RS-232, RS-485\/422, I\u00b2C, CAN and SPI, while the Rigol DS1054Z only decodes, as far as I remember, RS232, I\u00b2C and SPI and, in my opinion, does it worse and is more cumbersome.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if I use the Rigol DS1054Z instead of the Loto Instruments OSC482?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Especially when I'm working with <strong>video signals<\/strong> or with very low signals, where the <strong>noise is important <\/strong>because it can mask the signal (and the Rigol DS1054Z is not exactly known for its low noise).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One limitation of the Loto Instruments OSC482 is that it has no hardware Tigger, only software Tigger, so capturing a complex signal, such as a composite video signal, at the right time, and viewing it correctly with the Loto Instruments OSC482 I would say is impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It must also be said of the Loto Instruments OSC482 that it is noisier and its quantization errors of the analogue-to-digital converter it uses mean that it is not very accurate. But how often do we measure signals where you need accuracy below 50mV? For me, most of the time, I don't need more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I also use it when I want to see something <strong>in real time<\/strong>without any delay.<\/p>\n\n\n<p >No products found.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The DSO150 oscilloscope (DSO Shell)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It's almost a toy, but sometimes it's just the tool you need and does a very good service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can't ask for great performance, quite the contrary, but there are times when all you want to see is how something, which doesn't work at an excessive frequency, changes state. On these occasions it is a champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another use case for this oscilloscope is when you want to have a completely isolated instrument: It is the only oscilloscope I have that runs on batteries, which assures me that it will not influence the reading or give me a scare because of a ground connection through the plug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It's very basic, but I've had it for many years and still use it from time to time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For what it costs, you can't ask for more...<\/p>\n\n\n<p >No products found.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Loto Instruments OSC482 USB Oscilloscope<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"894\" height=\"920\" src=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USB-Loto-Instruments-OSC482.png\" alt=\"Loto Instruments OSC482 USB Oscilloscope\" class=\"wp-image-241153 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USB-Loto-Instruments-OSC482.png 894w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USB-Loto-Instruments-OSC482-292x300.png 292w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Osciloscopio-USB-Loto-Instruments-OSC482-768x790.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 894px) 100vw, 894px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A very important qualitative leap, with respect to the generic USB oscilloscope, both in hardware and software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I'm not going to tell you much about it here, because for that we already have this whole post, although I will briefly tell you the following, to compare the points I mentioned in the previous one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Experimentos-con-ESP-Easy-ESP8266-y-bajo-consumo-v2-Consumo-Lectura-Senseair-Sunrise-y-MQTT.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I like your software and it has a lot of functionalities. It is true that you have to get used to it, because it has some peculiarities, but you get used to it very quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the way, the software is frequently updated and interesting new features are added very often.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its bandwidth is much wider, 20Mhz, and its sampling rate is also much higher at 50M s\/s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, by having much more powerful hardware and memory in the device itself, its possibilities are much greater and it is less affected by the limitations that the data transmission capacity of the USB port may have, because much of the work is done by the oscilloscope and it only communicates \"the results\" to the software, so it does not need to transfer as much data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One interesting and curious thing about the Loto Instruments OSC482 USB oscilloscope is that its software interface protocol is documented and, according to the manufacturer (although I have not found it), there is an SDK in case we want to write our own software for it or integrate it with other systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Osciloscopio-Loto-OSC482-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Osciloscopio-Loto-OSC482-2-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Loto Instruments OSC482\" class=\"wp-image-238268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Osciloscopio-Loto-OSC482-2-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Osciloscopio-Loto-OSC482-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Osciloscopio-Loto-OSC482-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Osciloscopio-Loto-OSC482-2-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/emariete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Osciloscopio-Loto-OSC482-2.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also its 15-pin expansion connector is documented and the manufacturer even explains how the user can connect his own probes and accessories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have owned (and still own) several USB oscilloscopes and the truth is that they were very limited and far from what a real oscilloscope is. of the generated signal is very small and the quality of the signals is not very good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the worst thing is that every time you touch one parameter all the others change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have a function generator <a href=\"https:\/\/s.click.aliexpress.com\/e\/_DFmrpx1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">FeelTech FY3200-24Mhz <\/a>I would not use it if I didn't have it, but if I only had this Loto signal generator, I don't think I would use it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To give you an idea of how low its usefulness is, I have not been able to generate a signal as basic for any signal generator as <em>a 25Khz PWM signal with an amplitude of 3.3V and a duty cycle of the 50%<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe that's why they refer to it as \".<em>Signal generator<\/em>\"and not \"<em>Function
