As soon as I set up the new station, I will start publishing its live data on this page again.

In the meantime, you can read the articles I’ve written about setting up and operating my weather station:

My weather station: getting started

Home automation with Raspberry Pi

All articles about the weather station

Notes on the shortcomings of the previous weather station

The previous station was powered by solar energy, but the panel was quite old and the backup battery did not provide enough power, so it was to be expected that, following a period of low solar radiation (particularly in winter, at night), the station would stop collecting data.

The anemometer was a bit on the dodgy side (probably due to the bearings or because it was out of balance), so the wind readings tended to be lower than the actual figures. The rain gauge must also have been quite dirty, which is why the rainfall readings tended to be low.

Notes on the bad location of the weather station

In addition to all of the above, the installation site – from around 2010, when I moved house – was not ideal. It was installed quite close to the ground (about four metres), in a sort of «corridor» about six metres wide, with buildings on two of the sides. Not ideal for the anemometer.

For about ten years it occupied a prime spot, mounted on a turret some nine metres above the roof of a seventh-floor block, in a fairly central part of Madrid, with no taller buildings in sight.
